Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)
The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) was enacted in 2003 to target prison rape and to protect inmates from victimization. Under PREA, "rape" includes a broad range of sexual misconduct, including sexual abuse, rape, and sexual harassment. The standards for states to follow were signed into rule in 2012.
There are 9 Purposes established under the Act
The Wyoming Department of Family Services follows PREA standards for reporting incidents of sexual misconduct in the agency's two facilities, the Wyoming Boys' and Wyoming Girls' Schools and investigates all reports of sexual misconduct in these facilities.
PREA Reporting at WGS and WBS
Residents who are victims of, or witnesses to, sexual misconduct may report the misconduct in a variety of ways:
